2020 VW Polo TGI Test: Specs, Price & Fuel Economy
The test drive of the 2020 VW Polo TGI methane engine with 1.0 three-cylinder turbo engine showed reduced consumption and performance and driving comfort more than good for the German compact.
Volkswagen believes a lot in the methane and this is certainly not a novelty as evidenced by the Golf range which, in addition to being offered in petrol, Diesel, electric and plug-in hybrid versions, is also available in a natural gas version.
2020 VW Polo TGI Price & Fuel Economy
With list prices starting at € 16,600 (we tested the Comfortline with metallic paint at about € 19,000), the Volkswagen Polo TGI is equipped with the 1.0 three-cylinder turbo engine already prepared for natural gas. The engine delivers 90 horsepower and a torque of 160 Nm from 1,900 rpm and is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission. Absent, unfortunately, the DSG exchange much appreciated on the Golf TGI. The maximum speed is equal to 183 km / h and the shot from 0 to 100 km / h takes place in 11.9 seconds, while the average consumption is equal to about 3.2 kg of fuel to travel 100 kilometers. Approximately, about € 3 per 100 km , for a total gas range of just under 400 kilometers (390 to be precise).
2020 VW Polo TGI Interior
Internally the layout remains unchanged: the dashboard design is simple and straightforward, the infotainment screen and the instrumentation are easily accessible and easy to use. The dashboard is characterized by soft plastics, but we do not find on the door panels. The assemblies and the overall feeling are always of the best workmanship and quality, and that of a car of a superior category, robust and comfortable. Wanting to find a substantial difference with the normal pole, it must be said that the trunk loses a few liters of capacity and goes from 351 to 251 liters. However sufficient, but not comparable to the 351 that represented a great strength of the German compact. What is lost is the double bottom, while the interior space does not change.
On The Road
Once on board you notice all the merits recognized to the classic version of the VW Polo and, traveled a hundred kilometers, you realize in first person that the consumption is really very low, very low ideal for those who require low living costs from the car minimum.
The 2020 VW Polo TGI tank has a capacity of 40 liters, but is used only when the methane is exhausted. In this regard, remember that the methane tank has a capacity of 12 kg , which means, euro plus euro less, that with 12 euro is full of gas. The total autonomy taking into account both tanks is instead of 1,300 kilometers, really many. Needless to say, having a methane distributor near home or near the workplace makes things easier and allows you to travel almost always in eco mode.
