2020 VW Passat Redesign, Specs, Release Date & Price
The 2020 VW Passat makes its debut, available in pre-order from May and on sale in August. Among the main novelties the capacitive steering wheel, the new infotainment system and the renewed engines including the newly developed 2.0 TDI Evo.
The new VW Passat is equipped with IQ.DRIVE , the new brand dedicated to Volkswagen assistance systems. The IQ.DRIVE designation includes present and future technologies up to autonomous driving solutions, such as the new Travel Assist. Thanks to this assistance system, Passat will be the first Volkswagen to be able to move almost in the whole speed range (from 0 to 210 km / h) in partially automated mode.

Volkswagen focuses on intuitive controls and automated technology operation. New Passat is launched as the first Volkswagen with a capacitive steering wheel that registers the driver’s touch and thus forms an interactive interface with systems such as Travel Assist. Even the Emergency Steering Assist makes its debut in the Passat. The system increases safety during discarding maneuvers by intervening on the brakes. The Lane Assist lane maintenance function has also been improved and improved with a new multi-function camera. The IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights provide a further increase in safety and comfort.
Together with the 2020 VW Passat, the third generation of the modular infotainment system (MIB3) entered the market. App Connect, the smartphone app integration interface, offers for the first time on a Volkswagen wireless integration of iPhone apps through Apple CarPlay ™ wireless. Thanks to MIB3 and We Connect, Volkswagen Passat will always be online, as the new infotainment systems are equipped as standard with an Online Connectivity Unit (OCU) integrated with a SIM card. In addition to navigation services with real-time information, new technologies and offers arrive: music streaming services, Internet radio, use of web app technologies. Smartphones (Samsung compatible models) can become a mobile key to open and start the car.
The hardware and software of the MIB3 form a digitally interconnected unit with the 2020 VW Passat Digital Cockpit . Compared to the previous system (Active Info Display), the digital instrumentation has been further refined. The graphics of the high contrast display are clear and richly detailed. The range of functions has been taken to a higher level. The three different display configurations can now be customized with a single command from the new multifunction steering wheel.

Also new on the front of the engines, with the newly developed 2.0 TDI Evo, a high-efficiency 150 hp Turbodiesel, which emits 10 g / km of CO2 less than the equivalent engine of the previous model. The 2.0 TDI Evo is one of the first engines of a new generation of Diesel engines. The Passat range also offers three TSI 150, 190 and 272hp petrol engines and three 120, 190 and 240hp TDI Turbodiesel. All TSI and TDI engines are in line with the current Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. All new Passat with petrol or diesel engines are equipped with a particle filter.
