2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Review – Strong & Spacious SUV
Here because The 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is the center of permanent gravity around which the medium-sized SUVs / Crossovers revolve. The extraordinary balance of the car in the different characteristics that define a car makes the Tiguan a safe bet. Maybe it will never be exceptional in anything, but it’s really good at everything, just like those people who stay in the heart.
That said, it should also be noted that to get us to write this test, Volkswagen has not allocated any budget: the car simply liked us. We tested the 1.6 TDI from 116 Hp, an engine that only ten years ago would have been considered undersized. Here’s how this diesel turbo has been able to meet our expectations.
The Tiguan is a machine that convinces above all in everyday life. Aesthetically it does not venture too much, but the new optical groups make it look old and the rear tends to line up in the world of premium SUVs. The play of lines on the sides and the ribs on the bonnet give the car an adult look and very sure of itself, feeling confirmed by chrome and alloy wheels from 18 “to 5 split spokes.
2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Interior
If from the outside the car tends to respect canons and expectations, inside it aims to overcome them. The two children could continue to play with their little monsters even on the tables behind the front seats or, alternatively, on the armrest that can be obtained from the central place complete with cup holders. Do not miss, for those behind it, a dedicated air conditioning.
Those in front of you have even more reasons to smile. But let’s start by saying that if you are looking for luxury, finesse and unconventional solutions, you’ve got a car wrong. Everything is in place on the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, but the interior layout is more functional than beautiful. The plastics are slightly soft (or soft-touch for the fans) and the finishes to recall the brushed aluminum make everything a bit ‘cuter, but never superb.
Once the car is turned on, however, the wow effect will be triggered by the completely digital instrumentation and extremely customizable according to the needs, while the infotainment responds quickly and precisely to our every request. In this sense it is really useful compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On the lower part of the dashboard are the climate controls (automatic and two-zone) and the 6-speed manual shift lever, surrounded by the electronic parking brake and the other controls to manage the car (traction control, parking sensor, lane control) which may vary depending on the layout.
In this sense, there is a point to make. The price/quality ratio of the various settings is excellent, but the options are relatively expensive. Unless you have an unlimited budget, you will have to choose carefully what interests you most. Our priorities? Steering wheel controls, infotainment connectivity with the smartphone and ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control). Everything else can be secondary.
2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Performance
So, it is not easy to explain why 116 Hp on a car of almost 4.5 meters (1.67 high and 1.85 wide) is more than enough, but we will try anyway. Let’s start by saying that the driving position is comfortable on long journeys (thanks to the adjustable headrest) and allows you to have a good peripheral vision of what we have around. If we exceeded 130Km/h on a trip on the German Autobahn, we would realize that the rustling -part of something at the rearview-are quite contained.
Where Tiguan amazes more, however, is on the mountain mix: the car is stable and the suspension does not give way to the frenzy of tight and fast corners, remaining rigid enough to make us set beautiful trajectories without bringing home with a stomach ache the now proverbial children sitting behind. As far as driving in the city is concerned, Tiguan is left to maneuver well, does not have a too wide turning radius and the aforementioned parking sensors help.
To contribute to the success of this car there are many aspects: gear shifting is right, which allows a dignified recovery in the city and reduced consumption at high speeds, while the raised rail offers that extra degree of security that can change things for who makes driving a necessity rather than a passion.
The excellent 1.6-liter TDI then confirms its expectations even on a car of this type, yet another proof of the fact that the Diesel is anything but dead. Of course, if you live in highly automated cities, perhaps buying a new diesel car is not a farsighted choice. For everyone else, the Volkswagen Tiguan works just like the stations of the past (reliable, fast, comfortable and spacious) without sacrificing the SUV style and its high driving.
2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Engine Specs, Price & Equipment
How to buy it? The Volkswagen Tiguan starts at a price of € 33,550 for the Style version and reaches € 36,550 for the Advanced, with the Business versions (€ 35,050) and Sport (€ 36,150) to act as a gap. In addition to the 1.6 TDI, in the new Tiguan price list we find (again with diesel) the 2.0 with SCR and 150 Hp particle filter, which can be combined with the automatic transmission DSG, 4Motion all-wheel drive, either or none of these characteristics. For those who want to travel on petrol, there is only a 1.5 TSI of 150 Hp, available exclusively on the top of the range.
2019 Volkswagen Tiguan manages to be an excellent car almost in all. Its strengths are reduced fuel consumption (about 20Km with a liter in fact), excellent driving comfort and set-up, difficult to put in crisis. On the other hand, the base is the same as that of Audi Q3, a vehicle whose qualities we know well. Unfortunately, Tiguan, in common with the SUV of the Quattro Anelli, also has the price list; it is not a gift. Avoiding the premium, however, maintenance and spare parts are cheaper and the choice of the car becomes less classy.
